Rest In Peace

La Jolla Jean Jones, also called Jeannie by Jo but most everyone else calls me Grandma Jeannie due to many years of working with preschool and day care kids. After a tragic auto accident in 1988 that took my husband and son I hooked up with the Walsh Family and we have experienced many fun hard working adventures together ever since. I started mopping the entire 4,400 sq. ft Blues floor everyday before we opened. I would wash every pair of levi's and every piece of glassware in the place by hand. I would do anything and everything needed to help out my friends and make it a special place for you. I eventually worked my way up to store manager and loved managing The Blues for many years, until my back surgery in 2004, due to many hard years as a factory/assembly worker and improper lifting. The Walsh's were there for me during my entire ordeal and a few other bumps in the road, they even found a place for me after my recovery. I have helped with paperwork, cashiering, sales, greeter, answering phones, pricing and even security. I am suppose to be retired, but I am a work horse and can't stay away from my family. I love my job, I love that we support a great charity (The Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino) and I Love This Place! I am originally from North Carolina and love people. I now scoot around the thrift store in my walker slowly because Jo says, "Jeannie slow down, your not in a race" and my hearing is not so good, but I am here doing my best for my family and for you! When you are in the store please come by and say "Hi". I would love to answer any questions you have about our Great Redlands Thrift Store, it's products and its operations.

Dorothy Hoy Walsh

(November 1, 1934 - March 2, 2012)

Our Mom passed away after a long illness of Cancer. Cancer took her life on this earth, but her spirit lives on in all who knew her.  Our father and brother Danny preceded her in death and she mentioned them often in her last days on earth. We know she has joined them once again, in Heaven.

Mom married our Dad, Robert Walsh on May 5, 1956 and gave birth to ten children;  Darlene, Kevin, Brian, Eleen, Patrick, Kathleen, Maureen, Sean, Patrice and Danny. She also helped raise 6 grandchildren; Robbie, Patricia, Levi, J.R., Miles and Angel.  Her twenty-two grandchilcren and fifteen great grandchildren will have memories of  "Gammy" and "G.G." forever. Gatherings at Mom's home happened frequently, which meant anywhere from a few to dozens of relatives and friends would be there, celebrating birthdays, holidays, births, weddings, graduations and more! Everyone was always welcome and Mom's motto was "There's always room for one more."

Mom was born in Clarkson, New York and lived in the Brockport area until moving to Rialto, California in 1978. Mom graduated from Brockport Teachers College and began teaching for several years, leaving only to raise her growing family. After moving to California she began working at Crestview Convalescent Hospital, where she stayed for 30 years. Her work as a CNA, medical records clerk and then social services was a tremendous source of her pride.  After leaving Crestview and retiring as a social worker, Mom began working here at Redlands Thrift Store for her son Kevin as a full time sales representative until her passing in March 2012. Mom was a huge supporter of the store, she helped us with the opening, worked where ever we needed her and at the end was planting her ideas for the future of the business. She loved coming into Redlands Thrift and interacting with the customers. She even put together and organized our Customer Appreciation Day.

Our Mom is greatly missed and lives on within our hearts and memories forever.

A Scholarship fund has been established in the name of Dorothy Walsh, at the Bloomington Christian School. This fund will be used to offer financial assistance to grandparent's raising grandchildren.
